For a long time I've been turning over in my mind the idea of a bulrushes-beside-a-pond picture. I sometimes take my children to explore a nearby pond with towering bulrushes. I would pull down one of the seed heads to their level so they can feel it's velvety texture. Artistically, they're a wonderfully dramatic shape and colour. I couldn't help but include a heron, having seen them many times standing like statues at the pond margin. This one is a collage element but also monotype printed.

I used rollers and dabbers to spread out the ink then made marks with a cloth and other tools. I built up layers of over-lapping colous by printing serveral times. I incorporated textures by impressing inked up wallpaper and fabric. I also used paper stencils to make the crisp edges.
