The poppies here blend magenta and deep (letterbox) red to give that knock out colour punch. I've learned that by using two or three colours to express one colour in nature, I can give a more natural look: an equivalent to how light falls on objects and gives a range of tints.

I used rollers and dabbers to spread out the ink then made marks with a cloth and other tools. I built up layers of over-lapping colous by printing serveral times. I incorporated textures by impressing inked up wallpaper and fabric. I also used paper stencils to make the crisp edges. The poppies were printed using a viscosity method which rolling a stiffer ink over an oily ink.
