This monotype was the first of a bold change in the landscape to pure, velvety black for maximum drama! I've taken this idea from some of the night skies pictures I've done and worked up a dramatic sunset sky using a rainbow roll of colours overprinted with blues, greys and pinks. The trees were my first attempt at Scots pine which always seem to have wonderful tufty silhouettes!

A monotype is a one-off hand-made print, just as unique as a painting. I used rollers and dabbers to spread out ink on a smooth plastic board then made marks with a cloth and other tools. The ink was transferred to the paper using a hand-operated printing press. I built up layers of over-lapping colous by printing several times. I also used paper stencils to make the crisp edges.
