Beloved of garden designers, alliums (onion flowers) make great spherical shapes. Their seedheads are some of the best for autumn/winter interest. Their structure is complex but for this alliums monotype painting, I found a way to print the stems and draw in the details with the trace monotype method. This means I draw on the back of the paper to print a soft line of ink on the front. It's great for doing the details of the seed heads.

I used rollers and dabbers to spread out the ink then made marks with a cloth and other tools. I built up layers of over-lapping colous by printing several times. I also used paper stencils to make the crisp edges.
