Plough Your Own Furrow takes me back to my early explorations in landscape monotypes. At the time, I had just discovered how to print richly patterned textures using layers of ink and patterned paper. Returning to the theme of a simple ploughed field with the bare winter trees takes me back to my roots: where my printmaking experiments began, and to the fields and hedgerows of my childhood. It's a simple subject, richly embellished with colour and pattern. This ploughed field artwork is on paper 56 x 56 cm, printed edge-to-edge, with no margin, to maximise the image area.
 
A monotype is a one-off hand-made print, just as unique as a painting. I used rollers and dabbers to spread out ink on a smooth plastic board then made marks with a cloth and other tools. The ink was transferred to the paper using a hand-operated printing press. I built up layers of over-lapping colous by printing several times. I also used paper stencils to make the crisp edges.
