I particularly enjoyed working on Edgeland as the soft, natural colours seemed very evocative of my local area in Northumberland. The grasses and seed heads are very stylized but they call to mind the complexity of the field edge habitat. The subtly changing colours give a sense of distance with the contrast between the pale field and the grasses giving a sharp focus.
The original for this is a monotype, a unique printed painting. I use rollers and dabbers to spread out the ink then make marks with a cloth and other tools. There are several layers of colour working from light to dark. I use a series of paper stencils to give the crisp edges. You can watch a video about the printing of this image. There were 6 layers of ink in total - 3 sky layers, 2 seedhead layers then the trace monotype drawing.
This giclee reproduction is made to the highest standards on high quality paper. The accuracy of colour to the original is first rate.
