These Ox-eye daisies had self-sown into the garden at the Hearth - the arts centre where my studio is located. They looked so happy in the summer sunlight that I wanted to make a colour drawing to capture their freshness and the feeling of joy they evoke. Rather like a garden photographer, I tried to keep a selection of foreground flowers in focus and those behind them softer.
 
This daisy flower drawing combines acrylic inks with pastel, charcoal, pen and pencil. I used washes of bright colour followed by pastel and charcoal that I rubbed into the surface. By rubbing away with an erasor, I was able to uncover the flowers so that they glow brightly against the background.
