This serene floral painting begain with bold sweeps of abstract colour and collaged patterned papers from which the details of flowers and leaves slowly emerged. I worked back into the surface with drawing and fluid paint marks, allowing the piece to evolve intuitively. I wanted this painting to have a sense of soft light and space that would be calming and uplifting. The flowers are based on Rosebay Willowherb (fireweed) which have an incredibly varied structure as they change through the seasons.
 
I used acrylic paints, inks, crayons and collage. I make my own collage papers by painting or printing on lightweight sheets with layers of professional grade colour which are glued onto a prepared wood panel. The surface is sealed with four layers of varnish with a matte finish.

Unframed option: This painting can be hung directly on your wall. The edges of the panel are carefully painted to give a good finish from all angles. Supplied ready to hang with D-rings and picture cord.
