Iceland poppies are the most exquisite flowers and look transcendently beautiful when they are illuminated by the evening light. I hope Sir Frederic Leighton will forgive me for using the title of his exquiste painting of a sleeping woman - June is when these lovely flowers are in bloom in our allotment!
 
This mixed-media drawing combines acrylic inks with pastel, charcoal, pen and pencil. I used washes of bright colour followed by pastel and charcoal that I rubbed into the surface. By rubbing away with an erasor, I was able to uncover the flowers so that they glow brightly against the background.
