Country Reflections: a new etching

Back in September, I began work on two new etchings, each with two plates (so 4 plates altogether) It's been a long road but I've finally got them finished and the initial multi-coloured prints produced. In the video clip above I'm lifting up the paper from the second copper plate. The other etching will be unveiled soon!

Country Reflections has 17 colours so it really does take time to ink up and print each one by hand. There will be 50 in the edition eventually but currently there are only 5. Email subscribers had a sneak preview last week.

Returning to my favourite theme of the patchwork landscape, this etching has a child-like delight in the countryside. It's a companion piece to A Time of Plenty being the same size and a similar theme. It's inspired by family holidays in Northumberland and Cumbria.

My collectors love this tall format as I'm able to fit in so many levels of hills and fields, each with tiny patterns. The subject matter brings a smile to people's faces but I think they also appreciate the more abstract qualities of the composition and the way colour is used to give the idea of recession. This monochrome proof gives you an idea of how it looked at an earlier stage:
